About Me

My name is Sierra Brock and I am a senior at Chestatee High School. This year I was an intern in the Emergency Department at Northeast Georgia Medical Center. Last year I was an intern at SCG-Orthopaedics and I followed orthopaedic surgeons around in a clinical setting.  I learned a lot about acute and less severe injuries. However, this year I have shadowed many physcians and nurses around in the ER and I have learned about much more critical injuries. I loved that I got to learn about other specialties besides orthopedics. Although orthopedics is still my absolute passion I have come to appreciate and learn a lot from orther specialties. For example, I have gotten the opportunity to learn about traumas. I think traumas are really fascinating and I love how the trauma surgeon and other team members are so calm and knowledgeable in a seemingly chaotic situation. This year I have actually started to think about the possibility of becoming a trauma surgeon or an orthopaedic trauma surgeon. I really appreciate that the Honors Mentorship Program has given me the opportunity to be exposed to so many potential careers because it makes me work even harder in school because I have gotten a little taste of what my future could hold.
